The world`s biggest hotel is located on an extensive bay between the Sassnitz and Binz regions in the Baltic Sea, on the German island of Rügen. The hotel is so huge it stretches on 3 miles of coastline and all 10.000 rooms are faced to the sea.
The beach resort is named Prora and it was built more than 70 years ago by the Nazis between 1936 and 1939. The hotel was built on Hitler’s orders, in the same time when Germany was preparing to go to war. That`s one of the reasons why this massive undertaking was never finished.
9.000 workers were involved in building the Prora, all from construction companies of the Reich. Once the war started all workers were transferred to weapon factories and naturally all work on Prora was stopped.
Today, all eight housing blocks as well as the cinema, swimming pools and theater are nothing more than empty shells.
