1. Eiffel Tower
(Europe’s best known landmark and Paris most famous symbol)
Located on the Champ de Mars in Paris and named after the engineer Gustave Eiffel, this global cultural icon was built for the World Exhibition in 1889, held in celebration of the French Revolution in 1789. It stands 320 m (1,050 ft) tall and in its time was the tallest structure in the world. Today it’s the most-visited paid monument in the world.
“The iron lady” has three levels for visitors. The walk from ground level to the first is over 300 steps, as is the walk from the first to the second level. The third and highest level is accessible only by elevator – stairs do exist but are usually closed to the public. If you decide to take the stairs the magnificent and breathtaking view of the city will be more than rewarding.
