The natives of North Sentinel Island jealously protect their land from outsiders. They are welcomed by a set of arrows. The islanders’ culture will disappear instantly if they come in contact with our society.
During the 19th century many boats tried to reach their beaches, but the islanders chased them away with arrows. When a group of policemen tried to find an escaped convict in 1897 immediately ran away, leaving the body of the fugitive with his throat cut.
With its 72 km2, North Sentinel Island has no more than 400 inhabitants. Being very protective, they chased away the ship ‘The Promise’ with spears and arrows, and the crew had to be saved by a helicopter. Even though the scientists tried to set up a peaceful contact with the islanders, they didn’t manage and were chased away with spears.
