If you decide to move in the middle of Mexico in a cool intellectual city than Guanajuato is the place. Renting an apartment will cost you only $6, a ticket for a movie theater is $3 and a nice cold bear costs around $1. It can`t get cheaper than this!
Before you decide visiting or moving here make sure you are not afraid of mummies. Yep, you’ve heard it right; there are lots and lots of mummies here. Due to cholera outbreak in the 19th century the government decided that tax must be paid for every buried body. Since many couldn’t afford it, disinterred and natural mummies are everywhere. Look up a story called “The Next in Line” by Ray Bradbury (the author of Fahrenheit 451) and you`ll have a clear picture of what to expect.
Every year in October the locals throw down a wild festival called “Festival Internacional Cervantino”, which puts “Sundance” in shame by looking like a tea party for old ladies.
On second thought maybe we should have skipped Guanajuato, but I suppose some people don`t mind few mummies laying around in their own personal piece of paradise. 🙂
