Airborne autonomous taxis are something that many companies are looking into these days, as a way to ease transportation problems and urban congestion. But there is one city that plans to take it a step further by deploying the first ever passenger-carrying drones.
This year at the World Government Summit, Dubai’s Roads & Transportation Agency have announced that they are planning to use the Ehang 184 autonomous quad-opener electric drone to carry passengers through the air.
In case you didn’t know, Ehang 184 is a flying drone capable of carrying one passenger for a distance of 31 miles at max speed of 100mph. These characterizes are more than enough for a short flight across Dubai`s urban landscape. Of course the drones will be remotely monitored and piloted from a command center. These are not speculations because the city has already started with flying tests.
If you are looking to push the limits of transportation technology (or any limit for that matter) Dubai is your place. Hyperloop One is already piloting several self-driving shuttle projects and shortly they will deploy the first active hyperloop transportation system from Dubai to Abu Dhabi.
