Malta`s Azure Window Has collapsed Into the sea and the whole country as well as the rest of the world is heartbroken. Tieqa tad-Dwerja, as the natives call it, was hit by stormy weather and didn’t survive the rough sea.
The Azure Window was Malta`s greatest landmark, featured in countless travel brochures and also one of the most favorite spots for sea lovers and divers.
People were devastated, heartbroken and several of them shared their memories on social media:
These last couple of years, many geologists issued numerous warnings about the instability and the erosion of this structure and even banned visitors from walking on the top of it.
Roger Chessell, a Gozo resident saw the whole thing and described how it happened: “Suddenly, the arch collapsed into the sea with a loud whoomph, throwing up a huge spray. By the time the spray had faded, the stack had gone too.”
