I`m sure that you don`t need any extra reasons or motivation to visit Italy, but just in case we have found a very interesting one.
On a deserted crossroad on Italy`s north-south highway, just between Autostrada del Sole and Via Emilia, surrounded by silence and verdure you`ll find an unusual verdant extravaganza. Franco Maria Ricci , a 77 years old man still dreaming like a child, has build the world`s largest bamboo labyrinth. When looking at it he sees much more than a complex creation, it is a symbol and a state of beauty.
The journey began ten years ago when he sold his publishing house FMR and funded what’s to become his greatest achievement in his life. The green maze is completely made out from bamboo because if it was built from boxwood it would take at least 20 years, a time that he simply doesn’t have.
Even though Ricci wasn’t thrilled with the support and enthusiasm from local politicians, he never gave up or spoke with cynicism. I`m guessing deep inside a sense of disappointment must be present knowing that strangers take far more interest than Italians. A project of this magnitude can attract thousands of visitors each year and create at least 20 new jobs.
