Not always everything goes according to plan.
Most common Budget Travel problems and upsets
You are about to set off for a trip around the world but…
You`ve forgot to apply for visa in advance. Many of us like to go where and when we want and not to plan too much ahead. But we must get one, in order to make it all happen.
P.S. The cost of some visa charges can be pretty high.
When you’re abroad, thinking in your home currency can cause problems. Often things seem way to cheap or expensive so take your time and do your math right. Also, when buying stuff, check if VAT is included in your total price and if you can get it back (when purchasing big ticket items) when leaving the country.
Being overcharged because you are an outsider. Try not to look like a tourist too much by carrying cameras around your neck and other electronic devices. Blend with the locals as much as you can by avoiding flashy outfits and not speaking loudly on your own language. Since overpaying is the biggest problem, buy food from stands and restaurants where the prices are clearly posted from outside and check your hotel prices which are usually listed on the back of your room door.
Buying cheaper flight tickets way, way in advance and finding out you have to change dates that can create some extra expenses. Be as certain as you can before paying for one and stick to single flight tickets if you can.
Keep in mind that hardly anyone accepts traveler’s checks. Forget them and forget carrying lots of cash. In general the best thing to do is to use credit cards to pay for bills and debit cards to withdraw cash from ATMs. Just in case, have a back up card and keep it separately and carry some cash in smaller bills for emergencies.
At the end of the day you have to reach a point where you are willing to accept annoyances/problems as part of traveling and roll with it.
