When it comes to Barcelona, the first thing that pops up into my mind is the authentic and unique architecture as a perfect mixture of ultramodern, modern and traditional. Antoni Gaudi and Domenech Montaner, who designed most of the impressive buildings in Barcelona, are often referred to as the two most important artists in history. Other architects who deserve not to be overlooked are Frank Gehry, Zaha Hadid, Jean Nouvel, Richard Rogers, Mies van Der Rohe, Arata Isozaki etc.
If you are a first timer in Barcelona you must see the major Gaudi’s masterworks La Sagrada Familia and Parc Guell, Domenech’s Palau de la Musica Catalana and Castell dels tres Dragons. In addition, try not to miss the master pieces such as The Forum Building, Gas Natural, Modern Art Museum, the Hesperia Tower and many more.
1. La Sagrada Família
Ok, if you have time to see only one architectural masterpiece than this should be it. 100 years have passed and the building is still under construction but that doesn’t stop 2.8 million people from visiting each years. La Sagrada is Spain’s most visited monument and one of Gaudí’s most famous works in Barcelona. When the last stone will be finally set in its place Sagrada Família will become the tallest church in the world.
