Capturing The Otherworldly Beauty of The Frozen Baikal, The Oldest and Deepest Lake In The World

Baikal is the cleanest and deepest lake on the Planet that turns into a majestic wonderland in winter times. When it`s frozen, the thickness of the ice can reach an impressive 1.5- meters and can even withstand vehicles that weight more than 10 tones. But don`t let that fool you, because if you look carefully under the ice you can see some of them trapped under.

In different parts of the lake, the ice has different patterns because the water is freezing a layer at a time. The ice is so clear, you can see everything beneath you up to 40 meters.

With its impressive 600km in length, Baikal is also the deepest lake on Earth, 1642 meters. There are only two more lakes that are deeper than 1000 meters: Tanganyika (1470 m) and The Caspian Sea (1025 m).

It must be very unusual, but at the same time very impressive to see people moving on the lake on bicycles, sledges, skates, cars and even spending a night in a tent above the ice.
