The Chateau de la Mothe-Chandeniers is a castle located in the Poitou-Charentes region in France. This stronghold dates from the 13 century, and it was taken by the English twice, but then given to the French again. The famous Barclay family had the honor to have this castle as a home, but also as a place for luxurious, elite and expensive parties for the royals and famous people.
In 1932, a massive fire destroyed most of the buildings in the castle, and since then it has been totally abandoned. There was a try for returning back this castle’s glory by the teacher Marc Deyemer in 1981, but he never realized his restoration plans, because its surrounding was bought by a French bank, so the things got a little complicated.
Additionally, the nature has shown its power and started to take over it by time. The castle is surrounded with a lot of trees and other plants and is severely decayed and desolated. There are some non-profit organizations that make efforts to fix and preserve this fascinating castle, but until today there is still nothing done.
However, looking inside its wide rooms, huge halls and rounded staircases, the rich history for the king families and spirit can be felt even today. Proudly sitting, with its magnificent and royal appearance, the Chateau de la Mothe-Chandeniers still reminds the world of the old glory times.
